ACAT KZN - Please assist rural Africans deal with Covid

Makhosi Ngcobo joined ACAT as a group member in 2019, but because of Covid, she only completed her training in 2021. Before joining her group, Makhosi said she just used clean her house, and her main source of income was the child grants. She said since joining the group, her life has taken a different direction. She says that she used to struggle with how to start a business, and never wanted to garden, because it would involve too much work. But being in a group challenged her to start a vegetable garden, and her first job was to fence a small portion of her garden.

It took a lot of work to collect materials for fencing. Water is always a challenge, and she has learned that she can water her plants. For now, her garden may not look good, but her energy and passion is impressive. This is what the training course can do in the lives of people. She says: “ACAT’s training has opened my eyes. I can now see how capacitated I’ve become. I have mobilised other members to start a savings group and we have started saving. I am saving towards starting a fast food business.”
